The west coast has created a sound of its own over the years with the emergence of “gangsta rap”, the “hyphy” movement, and the ”Latin” rap sound. With the culturally diverse demographic in California, rap is a term that is not divined by one sound.
Many artists have been able to break out of California to get their sound heard, but there are some artists that are unable to gain recognition nationally and spread the unique west coast rap sound to other regions.
The artists below have been making a name from themselves on local radio stations in Los Angeles and in the Bay Area, and have gained a large fan base up and down the west coast while staying true to the diverse sound of rap coming out of the west.
With their local success, it only seems fair for them to be introduced to a mainstream audience.
